Daria The Complete Animated

Daria dvd centered on a smart overtly sardonic and extremely pessimistic upper-middle-class teenage girl Daria Morgendorffer dealing with day-to-day life in her suburban American town Lawndale. In a 2005 interview series co-creator Glenn Eichler described the otherwise unspecified locale as "a mid-Atlantic suburb outside somewhere like Baltimore. They could have lived in Pennsylvania near the Main Line though."
Daria. In the late 1990s, one incurable cynic who always told it like it was, stepped forward. For animation enthusiasts who clearly recall the teen's monotonous vocal pattern and unrelenting contempt for idiocy, the MTV animation Daria was a genuine little capsule of the high school years, indeed "the best years of our lives." Daria was written with a critical edge whose sole purpose was to censure intellectual malfeasance; the cartoon, as a result, earned high praise for coalescing all the angst, cynicism, and flight-of-mind of gen-X and gen-Y into one little padded room. Now, finally, MTV/Paramount are releasing the entire series onto home video.
Daria, the girl, doesn't like people. Actually, there are many more things that get on her nerves, but stupid people are likely at the top of her list. To this end, Daria wanders through high school the epitome of apathy, refusing to cave-in to the hypersensitive and using logic to backtalk the high-strung or self-conscious. But the girl isn't a bad apple for the sake of being so; Daria was clearly the most well-read and well-informed kid in her school. Her dry, abrupt, dark humor is uncanny and rubs a lot of people the wrong way.... but when one's ambitions are sucked dry by much of the real world's plastic, whitewashed, upper-classness, there are so few options left available.
Daria: The Complete Animated Series will be available May 11, 2010 ($72.99); an eight-disc DVD Set containing all five TV seasons and both seasonal specials (65 episodes). Anticipated bonus features include the original series pilot ("Sealed with a Kick"), TV spots, and a Mystik Spiral music video, among others. Delayed for countless years due to the series' extensive licensing of 90s-era-specific rock tunes common to airwaves of the time, Daria: The Complete Animated Series season dvd boxset should be worth the wait. Those close to the DVD Set's production note a number of tracks, license unrenewed, will either be replaced or included as cover tracks by more contemporary bands as an alternative.
Daria enjoyed poking fun at the underlying dysfunction of Middle America, often including a snappy artist ("Jane"), a deliberately over-achieving minority ("Jodie"), a cryptically stressed-out History teacher ("Mr. DeMartino"), and several other marvelous sycophants, in its cast. The series featured sharp writing and very memorable, if at times cliched, character dynamics. Daria is an animated comedy, but only pursued said genre by pulling back the curtain a little, hoping to display for its audience both the incorrigible and the ignorant, with a few cynical comments interspersed for good measure.
